VIDEO: Prague Agenda: First Panel – How to Manage Prague Effectively? Experts Discussed What to Do with the City’s Money

Prague has hundreds of billions of Czech crowns in its accounts. Is it right to keep them as a reserve for major construction projects, or should the city use the money now? And when does it make sense to borrow for major projects?

Experts discussed these questions in the first panel of the Pražská agenda debate How to Manage Prague Effectively.

The discussion focused on Metro Line D, the City Ring Road and other major investments. But it also showed that the issue is not only how much money Prague has. What also matters is how quickly and for what purposes it can use it.

The expert panel was moderated by Jan Macháček, President of the Strategeo Institute.

The panel featured:
  • Petr Bartoň, Chief Economist at Natland
  • Jan Krtička, Head of the EKON Office at the Prague Institute of Planning and Development (IPR)
  • Aleš Rod, Executive Director of CETA
  • Petr Zahradník, economist and macroeconomic analyst

Why do some experts believe Prague is keeping too much money aside? And why, on the other hand, is it argued that the city will need large sums in the coming years for its planned projects?
