Lively Discussion: The Strategic Club Debated the Polish Economic Miracle

The Strategic Club, a joint initiative of Anglo-American University (AAU) and the STRATEGEO Institute, continued its mission of creating a space for open and cultivated debate among leading figures from business, politics, public administration, and academia. Its exclusive format, with a limited number of invited participants, allowed not only for the presentation of ideas but also for their confrontation in an informal and inspiring environment.

The theme of the most recent meeting was “Poland vs. Central Europe: The Secret of Economic Growth.” While the Czech, Slovak, and Hungarian economies have stagnated in recent years—similar to the more advanced German and Austrian economies—Poland has managed to sustain a quarter-century of uninterrupted growth, interrupted only by a brief recession during the Covid pandemic.

The debate was moderated by Jan Macháček, who led a panel discussion with:

  • Maciej Ruczaj, political scientist and diplomat from the Center for Transatlantic Relations at CEVRO University,
  • Vít Dostál, Executive Director of the Association for International Affairs (AMO).

The discussion offered different perspectives on the foundations of Poland’s economic success and why neighboring countries have so far been unable to replicate it. It became clear that finding answers to these questions is of crucial importance not only for the economic future of the region but also for the overall dynamics of Central Europe.
