Veselin Vackov is a well-known journalist and media manager with extensive international experience.
He studied English, Czech, and Slavic studies at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, and computational linguistics at the University of Oxford. In 2005, he defended his dissertation on “The Language of the Media” and earned a Ph.D. degree. He began his journalistic career in the 1990s at the newly revived Lidové noviny as a foreign correspondent. Later, he became its editor-in-chief (2000–2009) and director (2013–2024). In the meantime, he also served as regional director of the MAFRA group.
He has worked as an advisor to publishing houses and media outlets in ten countries across Central and Eastern Europe. In 2025, he founded the news project PUBLICO. His interests include domestic politics and business, geopolitics, urbanism, artificial intelligence, opera, and sports.
