VIDEO: First Panel – History, Ideas, and Political Philosophy

What are the roots of American democracy? And why do its ideas continue to have such a strong influence in Europe and in the Czech context today?

The first panel of the conference marking the 250th anniversary of the United States, held on April 16, 2026, in Prague, focused on the historical and intellectual foundations of the American republic. The discussion offered a broader perspective on the formation of the American state, its values, and how these ideas have shaped European and Czech political development.

The debate showed that the United States is not only a geopolitical actor, but also a carrier of ideas that have shaped the modern understanding of freedom, democracy, and the rule of law.

How did the basic principles of the American republic emerge?
What influence did they have on Europe and the Czech lands?
And how is their interpretation changing over time?
