The independent think tank Strategeo Institute is launching a new initiative, Prague Agenda, designed to create a space for open and unbiased discussion about the future of Prague. The project also aims to contribute to more informed and competent governance of the city, particularly in the run-up to the municipal elections in autumn 2026.
“Urban planning and the development of Prague have been central to Strategeo Institute’s work since the very beginning. Our goal is to raise the level of public debate about the city’s future and to put forward concrete, evidence-based ideas for effective planning and management,” says Jan Macháček, founder and president of Strategeo Institute.
Prague Agenda will feature regular expert debates, public opinion research, policy papers, podcasts, and practical recommendations for the city. Strategeo expects these outputs to be useful not only to the public, but also to political parties and candidates in the municipal elections, offering an objective benchmark for assessing the expertise and credibility of their programmes and proposals. The first public debate, scheduled for February, will focus on the new Metropolitan Plan.
“Our ambition is to host at least one debate every month and to bring together Czech and international experts with representatives of public administration, business, academia, and the media,” says Veselin Vačkov, director of Strategeo Institute. “Each event will be accompanied by the release of a fresh public opinion survey among Prague residents, prepared for us by STEM/MARK.”
According to STEM/MARK data, the most urgent issues shaping Prague’s development include housing affordability, transport and mobility, the quality and accessibility of public services, and tourism. “These topics and their impact on quality of life will form the backbone of our research, while we will continue to add other timely issues as they emerge,” says Tomáš Rychecký, director of STEM/MARK.
Strategeo will publish the outcomes of the debates and research on its website and social media channels. The project will also include a newsletter and a podcast series, in which Jan Macháček will host guests from expert, business, political, and cultural circles with strong ties to Prague.
